As a child i was always fascinated by the story of Sadako and the 1000 paper cranes. Diagnosed with Leukemia after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Sadako began to fold 1000 origami paper cranes to have her wish of surviving her illness. To this day people continue to fold cranes and leave them at her statue at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. They are viewed as a sign of peace.
